SERVICES
Record
Digital audio recording offers many creative possibilities for your music, spoken word, audio books, commercial and soundtrack productions. Whatever you hear in your mind can be produced into a high-fidelity, professional recording at Bluejay.
Mix
Multi-track recordings require skill to turn them into great sounding mixes. Bluejay knows how to expertly mix your audio tracks, whether you record with us, or somewhere else. We will mix your music, audio books, commercials…anything audio into the masterpiece you have in mind.
Master
A process often misunderstood, audio mastering is the final polish put on an audio recording. Bluejay offers digital and analog mastering. Digital mastering will enhance your recording’s clean and clear audio goodness, and analog mastering will lend that warm, old school sound.
Audio Books
Audio books are all the rage, and authors are finding a whole new audience by creating this very marketable product. Bluejay can turn your written works into evocative audio books with expert narration, sound effects and music to stir the heart and mind of every listener.
Commercial/Voiceover
Advertising makes the world of commerce go round, and well produced audio is an essential element to sell your products and services. Bluejay provides voice-overs, music stingers, jingles and sound effects to fit your vision.
Audio Restoration
Audio recordings previously made on analog tape or vinyl can be restored to their full brilliance and clarity with digital processing. Bluejay restores ¼” reel-to-reel, audio cassette, and 45 or 33 ⅓ rpm vinyl records, and transfers the recording to a digital file format and/or compact disc for internet broadcast or your personal playlist.

THE STUDIO
There are many factors to consider when choosing a recording studio.
Reputation and experience, the engineer, location, equipment and price may be factors you are considering. We know you have many choices as small studios are plentiful, and high-end studios offer whatever you can afford.
As a smaller, budget-conscious studio, Bluejay offers the quality you expect from an expensive, high-end studio without the big attitude and price. Our reputation is strong as we have been recording local and regional musicians and artists for over 16 years, and have produced many high quality recordings of music, commercials, audio books, and sound effects. Owner and engineer, Mark Thomas Johnson, gives you his undivided personal attention with patience, skill and compassion, so you feel supported and nurtured throughout the recording process. If you have lots of studio experience and don’t need that, he will give you the service you need without frills. Flexibility to support clients with various backgrounds is the key.
The Bluejay Productions recording studio is located in the rural home of Mark Thomas Johnson. But don’t let that fool you, because this is no ordinary “home studio”. The whole house is the recording studio, so you don’t get a sense that you are invading someone’s space, but that you are working in a studio where the engineer just happens to live. No pets or kids or clutter, just professional working space, including a large, comfortable control room, a vocal booth, and an ample tracking room. The view is incredible, with a wide vista of the Rogue Valley and Cascade mountain range. There is plenty of room to chill out here on the wood deck or while talking a walk through the woods on this 20 acre property in the forest. It feels like you are far out in the country, but we are only 4 miles from downtown Jacksonville, Oregon.
Now let’s talk tech. Bluejay is a digital recording studio with the ability to produce a warm, analog sound. That is to say, you won’t get stark, sterile, digital-sounding mixes here, unless that’s what you’re going for. We record on an Apple Mac Studio with Logic Pro though a Universal Audio Apollo audio interface and UA plug-ins, and use quality microphones and various pre amps. As an analog engineer, Mark knows the difference between digital and analog sound, and has developed the skill to produce whatever sound you are going for, from old school analog to crystal-clear digital clarity.
Bluejay is budget-conscious, meaning we work within your budget to give you the best result. Price quotes are a challenge with recording and mixing as time is the main component in estimating cost. We do our best to stay on time and on budget, and always put in more time than what is billed in order to maintain our reputation for high-quality mixes.
